Showdown is a rating feature that allows you to compare two artists to one another. Your picks are compiled on your “Stats” page which shows you which artists on Broadjam you have ranked the highest.

Whenever you do an artist search and three or more items are returned in your search results, the Showdown button will appear at the upper-right corner of the page. Additionally, the Showdown button will also appear at the top of your “Connections” page.
Once you click on it, the Showdown window will appear and you’ll be asked to choose between the two artists displayed before you. You can play each of the songs using the media controls and you’re welcome to listen to several of their songs before choosing. Once you’ve made your decision, click the “This One” button below the artist’s picture and a new pair will then appear.
Follow the same procedure until you’ve completed all ten pairs (unless your search results did not have enough returns for ten pairs, in which case there won’t be as many to complete).
When you’re done, your My Showdown Stats page will appear, showing you the rankings of all of the artists you’ve rated.
Showdown is all about personalizing your Broadjam experience. It’s a great way to discover new artists and to get a better idea of which music you like and which music you don’t.
There are several features on Broadjam for you to rate music, but Showdown is the only one in which you are simply asked to choose between two contenders. You’re putting yourself in the judge’s chair and making a decision based on your own taste in music. Once you have done this often enough, you’ll start to get a better idea of which artists on Broadjam have impressed you. Consequently, you can start following those artists more closely and listen to more of their music and the music of similar artists as well.
You can sort your stats page by any of these three categories:
- Points: This is the default order by which the artists are ranked. The points an artist has are calculated by the number of wins minus the number of losses he/she has. For example, an artist with a record of 16 wins and 4 losses would have 12 points.
- Won / Lost record: Just like the records used in sports, this is a side-by-side display of how many wins and how many losses an artist has. You can sort by wins or losses individually.
- PCT: This number represents the artist’s winning percentage. It is calculated by the number of wins divided by the total times the artist has appeared, just like a player’s batting average in baseball. For example, an artist with a record of 12 wins and 5 losses (totaling 17 appearances) would have a PCT of 0.706.
You can change the order in which your stats are sorted by clicking any of these three headers at the top of your list.
Yes. Once the first song is playing, just click the next/previous arrows in the media-control bar, which will skip to more of the artist’s songs.
This allows you to have a Showdown between only the artists on the page you’re looking at.
